Men: Reverse Erectile Dysfunction with lifestyle changes

A new study shows that men suffering from erectile dysfunction (ED) could successfully reverse the problem by improving nutrition and lifestyle habits rather than relying on medication alone…

A study by the University of Adelaide earlier this year involved 810 men, 31 percent of which developed some form of ED over the five year study period. A third of the men were able to reverse the condition through lifestyle changes, according to a report of the study results inScience Daily.

ED is the inability to develop or maintain an erection during sexual performance. Causes include obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, neurological problems, hormonal insufficiencies, drug side effects, a high level of alcohol intake, sleep difficulties and age.

“Our study saw a large proportion of men suffering from some form of ED[…] The major risk factors for this are typically physical conditions rather than psychological ones […]” Professor Gary Wittert of the University of Adelaide told Science Daily.

Co-author Dr Sean Martin, also from the University of Adelaide, added that medication used for ED would most likely be far more successful when issues with lifestyle are rectified.

“[M]en should consider improving their weight and overall nutrition, exercise more, drink less alcohol and have a better night’s sleep, as well as address risk factors such as diabetes, high blood pressure and cholesterol,” he said.

In South Africa, around 65 percent of men who suffer cardiovascular disease will have some form of ED, according to statistics from Men’s Clinic International.

Nutritional consultant Vanessa Ascencao, spokesperson for the Viva Great Health campaign by Marcus Rohrer Spirulina, says a nutritious diet and daily exercise is vital for a healthy sex life, l adding that a good supplement goes a long way to boost health too.

Spirulina is said to a rich source of nutrition, containing over 100 nutrients including vitamins, the full spectrum of minerals, highly nutritious vegetable protein, chlorophyll, enzymes and anti-oxidants,  making it one of the purest and most potent multi-nutrients in the world.
