Liao Yuan City’s Microalgae Cultivation Facility Aims to Produce 1,000 tons of DHA Yearly

[Jilin Province, China] According to the Jilin province Liao Yuan City Economic and Technological Cooperation Network, the construction of Jilin’s Xima Biotechnology Co. Ltd. (希瑪生物科技有限公司) Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) production plant located in… Liao-Yuan City, will be completed soon. The plant is expected to produce 1,000 tons/year of DHA from microalgae.

According to the city’s government website (The people’s Government of Liao Yuan official website) This investment is a collaborative project among Institute of Microbiology of the Chinese Academy of Science,  Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biotechnology, and Washington State University of the USA.

The company was formed in year 2005 with a paid-up capital of $22.7 million Yuan (USD $3.7 million dollars). The plant has a build-up area of 15,000 square meter on a 50,000 square meter of land.

DHA is extracted from microalgae cultivated on an in-land farm. The DHA produced will be added to various consumer products such as milk powder, health supplement, medicine, or act as food additives. The use of DHA from microalgae can replace conventional DHA from fish oil.

The DHA production technology is also patented in China and it is owned by the company.
