A weekend of slippery, slimy and sublime seaweed is taking place in St Davids and Solva, starting today (Saturday).
Throughout Saturday and Sunday (August 9-10) there will be a number of exciting events, including individual courses and workshops where… people can discover the beautiful colours and shapes of seaweeds.
Search the Solva shoreline with artist Raul Speek for seaweed and other sea-related objects, then take your treasures back to his gallery where he will work with you on a picture.
Author and photographer Heather Bennett will take her groups down to the shore showing how to use and get the most creative images with your camera, while artist Deborah Withey will host a workshop for those who love line and colour and the pop art of the 1960s.
Join Daniel Wright for a workshop in the Goat Street Gallery and produce a pot decorated with images and textures taken from seaweed, or make a wild food foraging basket with Cassandra Lishman using her own local willow coppice and seaweed foraged from nearby beaches.
Meanwhile Amanda Wright’s workshop will be exploring wet and dry felt-making techniques whilst observing the patterns and structures found in local seaweed.
Julia Horton-Powdrill will be leading a seashore forage to discover more about the variety of seaweeds, from what they taste like to how you can incorporate them in your cooking and everyday life.
After all your fashioning and foraging on Saturday, why not join chef Andy Holcroft for a ‘Really Wild Dinner’, incorporating wild foraged food and locally produced ingredients.
Booking is essential for all courses and workshops as places will be limited.
