[Netherlands] We are looking for a tenure track associate professor to lead the research line in algal biotechnology. The algal biotechnology team in our group works in 3 different areas of expertise: photobioreactors, metabolic engineering and biorefinery. Each area iscoordinated by an assistant professor.
In total there are 25 PhD students doing research in algal biotechnology and 5 postdocs. We do research at both lab and pilot scale. We have the AlgaePARC pilot facility. You should initiate and lead the research both at lab and pilot scale.
In collaboration with the assistant professors you will be responsible for defining the research strategy, leading the team and further strengthen it to the leading algal research team in Europe. In education you will coordinate innovations in courses in the BSc, MSc and PhD phase in algal biotechnology to make Wageningen University the preferred institute to study.

Specific tasks include supervising PhD students, postdocs and technical staff, writing research proposals and scientific publications, and presenting research results at international conferences. Guidance of graduate and undergraduate students and teaching in algal biotechnology at all levels of the curriculum (lectures, lab sessions, course development and course responsibility) are an essential part of the job. Training courses and coaching are provided for the Associate Professor to enhance teaching and other skills.

- You should have knowledge and have published in all expertises we do research in in algal biotechnology, i.e. photobioreactors, metabolic engineering and biorefinery;
- You should be able to lead a team of professionals, (experience with supervising PhD students, postdocs and technical staff);
- Excellent skills in writing, communication and presenting to our different target groups;
- You should be able to develop networks in industry and academia and having an international network (essential for an Associate Professor).
- The ambition to develop to full professor in a Tenure Track system.
