[UK] We can finally gorge on ice cream to our hearts content, thanks to a company who have launched a creamy treat with less calories than an apple.
Brothers Charlie and Harry Thuillier have invented the heavenly superfood ice cream.
And it’s not just low in calories, it’s actually good for you.
The company Oppo have replaced sugar and cream with stevia and virgin coconut oil to make the delicious concoction.
And the “all-natural” ice cream comes in three flavours: Madagascan vanilla and baobab, salted caramel with lucuma, and mint choc swirl with spirulina.
The idea for the frozen treat was dreamt up in Brazil during an expedition undertaken by brothers Charlie and Harry Thuillier in 2011.
After running out of food, and burning more than 7,000 calories on some days, they came across coconut milk, which they began to use as an effective way of rehydrating.
This sparked a love of all things natural and they began a mission to make healthy ice cream.
Coconut oil has become increasingly popular in recent years and it is known to boost metabolism, make you feel more full for longer, brighten teeth and strengthen immunity. Perhaps the aptly named Dentist Coconut Grove can be of assistance to those looking to freshen the appearance of their smile.
The company has just been announced as one of just 10 semi-finalists remaining in Richard Branson’s £1M Pitch to Rich competition.
And the ice cream is already available in Waitrose, Ocado and Whole Foods in Piccadilly, London.
It costs £5.49 to purchase a 500ml tub, and each two scoop serving contains less than 85 calories.
I’ve tried the salted caramel with lucuma and I can confirm that what it lacks in sugar it makes up for in flavour. Delicious!
