[UK] Rothamsted Research, the largest agricultural research centre in the UK providing cutting-edge science and innovation for nearly 170 years, is looking to an experienced researcher to work on Innovate-UK funded project “Pilot Algal Manufacturing in the United Kingdom (PALM-UK)”.
The goal of this project is to develop scalable biorefinary technology for the manufacturing of high value products in microalgae. The project will involve engineering of microalgal strains to co-produce a range of high value lipids and chemicals (biopesticidal peptides, Phytase and bactericides), that can be separated using a low-cost downstream processing system. The successful applicant will join a research programme with a specific focus on developing a robust system for the use of microalgae as a new microbial platform for the manufacturing of high-value products.
Candidates will be required to have a PhD in biological/microbiological subject and experience in molecular biology techniques and protein biochemistry. Experience in the growth, manipulation and transformation of algae would be advantageous.
